Domestic Assault

ARE THERE PROBLEMS IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP:
Problems communicating?
Problems with anger?
Problems with jealousy?
Problems with alcohol or drugs?

DOES YOUR PARTNER:

Call you names or put you down?
Try to control everything you do?
Blame you for the difficulties in your relationship?
Threaten you; intimidate you?
Play mind games?
Isolate you from your family and friends?
Push or shove you (or worse)?

ARE YOU FEELING:

Guilty and embarrassed?
Hopeless/helpless?
Depressed?
Fearful?

DO YOU:

Blame yourself for your partner's behaviour?
Hide the fact that this is happening in your home?
Try everything to make relationship work?
Have low self-esteem?
Believe this happens only you and no one else?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

FACTS TO CONSIDER:

Domestic violence/wife assault is a widespread problem.  In a recent study, one in five Canadian men living with a woman admitted to being abusive towards her.
Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Rich, poor, educated, illiterate, young or old - it does not discriminate.

Children who witness violence in their home are at risk. The child may grow up to be abusive or abused.

Abuse can take many forms:

Physical abuse - slapping, punching, pushing, shoving, and using a weapon.

Emotional/Verbal abuse - name calling, put downs, threats, jealousy, blaming behaviour, humiliating, isolating.

Financial Abuse - having total control of finances, preventing individual from getting or keeping a job, not allowing person to have own money.

Sexual Abuse - forced sex, forced to participate in undesired sexual acts, flaunting of affairs.

Without intervention, the abuse and difficulties in your relationship could increase in severity and frequency.

There is now excuse for abuse. No one deserves to be controlled, to be abused or to live in fear.
